School Improvement Grant Schools Identified

River Rouge – The U.S. Department of Education has created a new process to help America’s schools improve teaching and learning for all students. River Rouge High School has been identified, along with over 100 other schools in Michigan, as qualifying for the federal funding targeted to transform teaching and learning. “Embarking on an initiative of this magnitude would be a challenge without the assistance of significant federal funding, up to $2-million per school, through the ARRA School Improvement Grant, said Superintendent Lopez. “The development of strong educational systems is an ongoing effort, this grant funding will help provide additional services and opportunities.”

The River Rouge School District will apply for School Improvement Grants (SIG) in the coming months. The School Improvement Grant funding will be used to implement the Transformational improvement model (New Tech High). The New Tech High Transformational model will be in effect as school opens for the 2010-2011 school year. The new staff of the River Rouge High School looks forward to working with the community, parents, teachers and students in the implementation of the New Tech High model for our students.

For more information on the SIG process please contact Dr. Carlos Lopez at (313) 297-9600, Extension 1630.
